GoNexus Winter School

Save the date for the GoNexus Winter School on modelling the WEFE nexus for a sustainable future!

🗓 15 – 17 January 2025
📍 Valencia (Spain) or online

The GoNexus Winter School aims to introduce participants to advanced modelling strategies for the WEFE (Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystems) nexus within the GoNexus project framework, with a focus on sustainable resource management.

Participants will explore the importance of incorporating diverse stakeholder perspectives in managing the WEFE nexus. They will also gain practical experience on global, continental and river basin models to assess the nexus under different scenarios and solutions.

By the end of the course, participants will have practical exposure to selected tools for integrated and sustainable WEFE nexus management.

Who can participate?

The GoNexus Winter School is designed for professionals or advanced students in environmental science, natural resource management, agriculture, or related fields, who have experience or interest in sustainable development and integrated resource management.

Methodology and evaluation system

The GoNexus Winter School combines theory with practical application, providing a balanced approach to learning. Each module includes interactive lectures to introduce foundational concepts, followed by hands-on practice where participants can apply the models and tools discussed.

Dedicated Q& A sessions facilitate active interaction between participants and instructors, encouraging collaborative learning and knowledge sharing. Evaluation will be conducted through a multiple-choice test at the end of the course.

6 modules

GoNexus Approach: This module introduces participants to the GoNexus project framework and its unique approach to modelling the WEFE (Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems) nexus. Participants will explore the project’s objectives, methodology, and the innovative tools used to address interconnections and trade-offs within the nexus.

GoNexus Dialogues: In this section, participants explore the GoNexus Dialogues, which incorporates diverse stakeholder perspectives into WEFE nexus management.

WEFE Nexus Large-Scale Modelling: This module focuses on the principles and applications of large-scale WEFE nexus modelling. Participants will explore global and continental modelling approaches that capture interdependencies across water, energy, food, and ecosystems sectors.

WEFE Nexus River Basin Modelling: Participants explore river basin-level modelling, focusing on how WEFE nexus dynamics play out on a localised scale.

Solutions and SEF (Solution Evaluation Framework): This module introduces the Solution Evaluation Framework (SEF), an analytical tool within the GoNexus project designed to evaluate potential solutions for effective WEFE nexus management.

Evidence-Based Decision-Making: This concluding module highlights the value of evidence-based decision-making, helping participants understand how nexus modelling can drive effective policy and promote resilient, sustainable management across sectors.
