Evidence and solutions
As part of the GoNEXUS project, a specialized sustainability assessment framework (SAF) will be developed to evaluate NEXUS challenges, interlinkages, and potential solutions. This framework will include the following elements:
- Indicators to assess interlinkages in the WEFE Nexus, such as water productivity in energy and agricultural systems.
- Indicators to evaluate the environmental, social, and economic impacts of technical and policy interventions in future scenarios.
- Indicators to describe socio-economic conditions, drivers, and potential conflicts, such as migration and health crises, both at the local and transboundary levels.
The SAF will also facilitate the comparison of nexus performance in various case studies, including different river basins, enabling the derivation of lessons learned and recommendations for water-resource decision-making.
Building on the data collected through the case studies and scenarios, GoNEXUS will identify and assess innovative win-win solutions for more efficient, sustainable and coordinated governance of the water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus. GoNEXUS will also co-develop a Solutions Evaluation Framework – with the aim to co-design and assess integrated management and governance solutions and measures within the WEFE nexus across multiple scales.
